5 Ways To Look Good When You’ve Got A Cold
Posted by Jasmine Taylor-Moran in Skin Care, Makeup
It’s that time of year again where everyone and their neighbour are ill with either the flu, a cold or a combination of the two. There’s no beating it - the red noses, pale, dry skin on your face, constant sneezing and wanting to curl up in a ball and have a duvet day.
If you’ve not already got it or had it already, be warned, the winter cold is coming your way and it’s essential you’re prepared. No, I’m not talking about loading yourself up with preventative medicines, hot drinks and wrapping up warm, although you should probably do that aswell. I’m talking about the other kind of preparation... The kind you do when you think you might go out after work, but you’re not quite sure how much work you’ll get done, so you bring your entire wardrobe, makeup kit and hair stylers to the office kind of preparation.. But on a smaller scale!
There are people out there, that despite their red, blotchy, dry skin on their face, coughing, spluttering and sneezing, don’t want to stay at home. The busy types who just want to get on with things and not let anyone know they’re ill incase they’re sent home. I can be a bit of both at times, sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do!

Looking good when you’re ill is a fine art. Often, people think I’m ill when I’ve not put my eyeliner on, or skipped the bronzer for a day, when I’m actually righter than rain. So ensuring you look well when you’re actually dying inside is a whole other ball game. There are however, 5 things you can do to make sure no one suspects a thing just so you can attend that amazing party, or go to that event you’ve been looking forward to all autumn.
1. Correct & Perfect
To combat that dry skin on your face and any redness caused by rubbing, sneezing etc, use a cooling makeup base underneath any foundation, BB cream or concealer to brighten your skin and hide any of that redness. Urban Decay Complexion Primer Potion will be your fairy godmother on a day such as this to brighten and tighten tired, dry, dull skin.
2. A Good Foundation Can Fix All
Finding the right foundation for your skin type is important, as if you suffer from dry skin on your face, then using a foundation that’s drying and meant for oily skin will not make you look good. Take our beauty quiz to find the right type of foundation for you. Go for a medium to full coverage, just to make sure any redness and blotchy areas (especially round the nose) are neutralised.
3. Make Those Eyes Pop & Shine
The best way for me to hide my illness (or tiredness) is to grab my Benefit They’re Real Push-up Liner and glide on an effortless cat-like wing and brighten the under eye area with Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer which will illuminate your face and keep it looking wide awake all day. Go wild with Autograph Amplified Lashes Volumising Mascara to give that wide-awake doll look.
4. Glow Baby, Glow
Nothing brightens your skin more than an illuminating Illamasqua Gleam Highlighter. Highlighting your cheekbones, brow bone, nose and cupid’s bow will throw anyone off the scent that you’re even remotely ill, as the dullness of your skin will be hidden under that blinding glow of your highlight.
5. Dew You Mind?
When ill, the dry skin on my face just makes me look dull, dry and desert-like. To combat this, even through the layers of makeup I’d be wearing to conceal my illness, would be to spray the face liberally with Caudalie Grape Water Mist. This organic, moisturising, refreshing and toning spray will give your face that extra dewy glow.
With these 5 tips, you can combat any illness and be rid of that dry skin on your face throughout! Don’t ever let a cold get you locked away again.
