9 Best Vitamin C Skincare Products

Vitamin C is a wonder ingredient, helping to treat everything from UV damage and skin texture to wrinkles and dehydrated skin. No surprise that it was 2017’s most pinned ingredient on Pinterest!
Here at My Beauty Matches we decided to put these big claims to the test to see if Vitamin C within skincare really is the miracle everyone says it is. Keep reading to see our top picks and why we love them so much.
I’d like to start off by saying how much I love this product! It’s a really great alternative for people that have sensitive skin and find traditional exfoliators too harsh. It specifically targets pollutants that are left sitting on the skin at the end of each day. My advice for getting the most out of this product is to apply it in sections as the liquid dries very quickly. I use half a pump per section of my face (forehead, chin, nose, cheeks) and massage it in immediately. As you do this you’ll see little clumps of dead skin start to form. I then use a warm flannel to wipe away the dead skin and move onto the next section. The final result is fresh, clean, healthy looking skin. This product has become a staple in my evening skincare routine and I would highly recommend it to people that are prone to flaky skin but don’t want to use rough exfoliators. The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Revealing Liquid Peel, £18
This nifty booster from Clinique is designed to brighten, even and retexturise the skin while targeting visible signs of aging. The great thing about this product is that you don’t you have change your current skincare routine to get the benefits of Vitamin C. Just pop a couple of drops of the booster into your favourite moisturiser and you’re good to go! I really enjoyed using this product and did actually see a difference in the texture of my skin after using it twice a day for a week. The only thing to bear in mind is that because the booster contains pure Vitamin C it does have a very short lifespan after it has been opened. Vitamin C naturally degrades in potency when exposed to oxygen, so once it’s been activated you only really have 7 days to use it while it’s at its most powerful. This Nivea Q10 Plus Vitamin C Eye Cream is designed to refresh dull and tired eyes while visibly reducing the appearance of fine lines. It also helps to firm the contours of your eyes and leave you with smooth, energised skin. I really liked the lightweight texture and how fast it absorbed into my skin. I can’t stand eye creams that stay tacky for ages after they've been applied. I didn’t see any difference in my skin after using this product but, to be fair to it, I am only 22 so wrinkles aren’t really a problem for me at the moment. Alpha-H Vitamin C Serum
I was really excited to try this product as I’m a massive Alpha-H fan. It claims to improve skin’s radiance, elasticity and texture, whilst helping to reduce pigmentation, refine pores and protect the skin from external aggressors. So pretty much everything then! I applied a drop to each section of my face and neck each morning and followed with my normal moisturiser. After about two weeks of using the Alpha-H Vitamin C Serum I did start to notice the skin around my neck was a lot firmer and my skin texture had definitely improved, but I’d have to use it consistently for a longer period of time to see if their other claims are true. Alpha-H Vitamin C Serum, £39
I have never bought anything from Rodial before so I was very excited to try out their Vit C Brightening Mask. The lightweight gel mask brightens dull skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles and age spots, while the blend of 10% exfoliating fruit evens skin tone and resurfaces the complexion for glowing skin. I would recommend using this once or twice a week after cleansing. Apply a thin layer, avoiding the eye area and hairline, and leave for 15-20 minutes to let the ingredients penetrate the skin. Use warm water to wash off the mask to reveal fresh, glowing skin. Follow with your favourite serum and night moisturiser and you’re all done. This is another product that has become a regular in my skincare routine as it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin and really does leave me looking healthy and glowy. Rodial Vit C Brightening Mask, £65
Murad’s Essential-C Day Moisture with SPF 30 is the face cream of my dreams. This moisturiser will not only protect you from sun damage but it also aids in the improvement of skin elasticity, firmness, and hydration. I have tried countless Vitamin C moisturisers but many of them are too sticky, smell funny or are just not hydrating enough. As I have Indian skin I was looking for something that provides me with SPF protection and that's not too heavy, and also has Vitamin C to even out my skin tone and discolouration. This Murad Essential-C Day Moisture with SPF 30 just glides on my face and is so light I don't even feel like I have anything on my skin, however it still gives me the moisture I need. The tube is also very light and easy to carry in your handbag. Murad Essential-C Day Moisture with SPF 30, £59.99
This Vitamin C face mask From Starlabs is very different to the usual sheet masks I've tried in the past. It comes in two pieces. One piece contains the liquid, or "active ingredients", and the other piece contains the masks with little pockets of Vitamin C all around the mask. So before I could use the mask I had to pour the liquid (active ingredients) into the dry sheet to active the Vitamin C. It did give me instant hydration (and I need it as in the winter I always have my heating on to the max). I felt my skin instantly looked healthier and more hydrated. My personal preference is actually gel based sheet masks as I feel they give more radiance to the skin, however it was nice to feel like I was dabbing pockets of vitamin C straight on my face and that the sheet mask gave me all the hydration I needed. Starskin Juicelab Twist & Sprout Power C+ Booster Mask, £8.50
This Vitamin C face serum from Dr Dennis Gross is going to be in my beauty cabinet forever. I had never tried a Vitamin C serum before so didn't really know what to expect. But this product honestly changed my life and I cannot wait to try their other products. The serum had no scent which I liked as fragranced products tend to irritate my skin. I wore it as suggested; twice a day, morning and night after cleansing. After applying it just for 1 week it made such a difference to my skin. Since I have started using the Dr Dennis Gross C+Collagen Brighten And Firm Vitamin C Serum I have nearly stopped wearing foundation as it makes my skin look so perfect. As I only need one pump to do my entire face the bottle is also going to last me months which I love! Dr Dennis Gross C+Collagen Brighten And Firm Vitamin C Serum, £79
Last but not least, we have Sunday Riley’s Ceo C+E Antioxidant Protect and Repair Moisturiser. This product has a list of claims as long as my arm, but a few of the main ones include anti-aging protection, evening skin tone and texture, and protecting against the harmful pollutants in the air. The texture is extremely luxurious and rich and feels really nice on the skin. I would highly recommend it to people with very dry skin or to use it at night like a face mask if you have super dehydrated skin. There was no greasiness but a lot of deep hydration. I would also recommend Sunday Riley's Ceo C+E Antioxidant Protect and Repair Moisturiser to anyone who lives or works in a highly polluted area as the Vitamin C acts like an anti oxidant. Sunday Riley Ceo C+E Antioxidant Protect and Repair Moisturiser, £60
