The (very) relatable morning routine - your alarm clock rings, a hand emerges from under the duvet and flails around trying to locate your smartphone, after a quick check of Instagram, Twitter and Facebook you’re finally ready to start the day. Since you spent more time than you should have in bed, stalking your favourite celebrity's #AboutLastNight posts, nce suitably dressed, you now only have time to apply the bare minimum makeup.
What if we tell you that we can take you from bare minimum to bare faced chic in less than 5 minutes? So stop hitting the snooze button, and perk up those peepers in less time than it takes you to drink your first cup of coffee. As an eye make up aficionado here are my tried and tested (in under 5 minutes, honest) top beauty and makeup tips below:
**The Au Naturel ** 2 minutes
Dot on your regular foundation under and over your eyelids to remove that "minimal amount of sleep" look. Followed by with two swipes of volumising mascara such as Benefit's They’re Real Mascara £19.50 on both upper and lower lids for a subtle but fluttery look. For a super fresh spring look I like to pair the au naturel eyes with a bold lip and a messy top-bun.
**The Perfect Cat Eye ** 4 minutes
It's been a while since the exaggerated winged eyeliner look has been on-trend and we’re happy to report that it's back to stay. There are several ways to ensure you don't spend hours trying to get one eye to look identical to the other. Our go-to trick is to use the back of a spoon as the guiding tool. Use the handle as the template to the perfect straight line. To be extra careful, use a light pencil to outline and fill it up with a dark black liquid liner. Failing that, dip a cotton bud in make up remover to fix any wobbles. One of my favourite easy-to-apply liquid eye liners is the Barry M Waterproof Gel Liner £5.49 in Black which gives bold defined flick.
**The Smokey Eye ** 5 minutes
For a textured, smokey look blend a dark shade eye shadow from the lashes to the crease of your eyelid. You can go for any colour - grey, navy, brown or plum, I'm currently a huge fan of Metallic Eye Shadow in Balsam from Bobbi Brown £19.50. Then lightly smudge the shadow at the crease, giving it a slight "I slept in this look" that Kate Moss works oh so well. Add a highlighter at the inner corner of your eyes, the light reflecting particles will really make your eyes stand out. Finish with a few swipes of mascara to really add some volume to your lashes.
The Sultry Eye 5 minutes
No time to get changed for an after work event, this look will quickly take your from day to night. Start by swiping a light shade of taupe across your entire eyelid. Next, from your mid lash line to eyelid crease blend on a darker shade. Finish it up with a golden colour at the inner corner of your of your eyes, Charlotte Tilbury’s Luxury Palette Eyeshadow The Sophisticate £38.00. has beautiful flecks of gold that enhance all eye colours and has serious staying power.
Two-Toned Liner 3 minutes
This everyday look is a super quick way to freshen bleary eyes. On the upper eyelid use a jet-black liquid eyeliner as usual then, on the lower lash draw a thin line of blue using Prestige Total Intensity Eyeliner Fierce £1.50along the lower lash line.
**Highlighted Eyes ** 2 minutes
Wash a neutral shade over the entire lid, then brush and define your brows. Using short, slim strokes with an eyebrow pencil to mimic the shape of the hair fill them in lightly to maintain a natural but neat look. Then dot on highlighter under the brow bone and blend with your ring finger, the light reflecting particles will increase brightness and make you look like you've had a full 8 hours sleep, even if you don't feel it.
