The Best Eye Shadow Shade For Your Eye Colour

The eyes are a very powerful thing. They can give away exactly what we’re thinking without us even realising and many people say they’re the window into the soul. So when it comes to eyeshadows we want to make sure we’re using the best possible colours to really make our eyes stand out.

So how do we work it out? It’s actually pretty simple. Cast your mind back to art lessons in school, do you remember seeing a colour wheel? All you have to do is find your eye colour on that wheel and look at the colour or group of colours that are opposite it, and there’s your answer. Applying an eyeshadow that is the complete opposite shade to your eye colour will mean your eyes stand out against it and won’t get lost.

Still a bit unsure which shades you should go for? Well don’t panic. I’ve put together a list of the colours you should and shouldn’t use, plus some great products that will suit your eye colour perfectly.

Blue

Blue is naturally a cool colour and comes in many different tone and hue variations. So warm, earthy colours are best suited to people with blue eyes. Think golds, bronzes, oranges, peaches and browns. Stay away from silvers, greens, and (obviously) blues. If you have blue eyes you need to get the Huda Beauty Warm Brown Obsessions palette. It has a great combination of burnt oranges, dusty browns and glittering golds to compliment your eye colour perfectly.

Green

Green eyes are naturally bright so you might find you don't need to contrast them too dramatically, but obviously you can if you want to! Colours that are great for green eyed beauties are pinks, purples and reds. Similar to blue eyes, as green is a cool colour, anything warm toned will suit you so feel free to use bronzes and golds too. Avoid greens, blues and yellows, but you can wear silver. The NYX Machinist Shadow Ignite palette is perfect for you as it contains purples, corals, deep reds and pinks. It also has a great mix of shimmers and mattes so creating a gorgeous eye look won’t be hard with this palette.

Brown

So you may be thinking, “hang on, brown isn’t on the colour wheel”. And you’re right, it’s not! Therefore people with brown eyes can have their pick of eyeshadow colours without worrying about a colour clash. So go wild and pick anything from forest greens and turquoises to bright pinks and dark plums. The Revolution Regeneration Trends Mischief Mattes palette is a great pick for brown eyes as it contains pretty much every shade on the colour wheel, so there’s really no excuse to get stuck in and experiment with some more adventurous shades.

Hazel

Hazel eyes are beautiful as they contain flecks of brown, gold and green, so if you’re lucky enough to have this eye colour then you can experiment with a number of eyeshadows depending on which flecks you’d like to highlight. Like brown eyes, you can pretty much choose whatever colour eyeshadow you like but I really like the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette as the rich oranges, pinks and plums look so pretty next to hazel eyes.
