8 Christmas Party Makeup Essentials You NEED To Invest In This Month
Posted by Kim Armstrong in Makeup
As unbelievable as it sounds with how quickly the year has flown by this year, it’s officially November which means it’s time to start the countdown to Christmas! I don’t doubt that your diaries will be filling up with those festive party invitation, so what better time to start shopping for some new Christmas and NYE makeup?
Along with changing your seasonal wardrobe it’s quite common to also want to change up your makeup look to focus on enhancing deeper tones in the skin which will help to provide our complexion with the warmth and radiance it needs this season.
Most of us will be finishing work with only half an hour to transform ourselves for those special parties, and with so little time to bring on the glitz and glamour here are some key products I highly recommend which are super effective in achieving a statement look, to make you feel like you are seriously Christmas party ready!
A hard working primer is an essential part of your routine in order for your makeup to really last throughout the night. I love the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer, £30 as it creates a smooth hydrated base for your foundation to sit on and feels really fresh and lightweight on the skin.
Choosing the right foundation is crucial due to our skin being slightly more drier and duller during the winter months. NARS' Sheer Glow Foundation, £33 is great for achieving a hydrated and glowing finish with a very good amount of coverage for that super flawless base.
Your perfect base will be complete with MAC's Pro Longwear Concealer, £18 which should be blended well under the eyes, bridge of the nose, centre of the forehead and chin to help draw in brightness to your face. The creamy consistency and blendable texture to this concealer also helps to disguise blemishes, for a fresh and awake look that instantly rejuvenates your appearance.
The best way to create stand out party ready eyes is by adding sparkle and shimmer. Ciate's Precious Metal Eye Shadow, £18 is great for this. It comes with a primer which is perfect for your shadow lasting all night. I particularly love the Collins Avenue shade which is a beautiful metallic gold / bronzed shade that pretty much suits any eye colour.
The Body Shop
The Body Shop's Smokey Eye Definer Pencil, £9 will add depth and definition to your eyes giving them a soft smudged smokey effect above and below the lash line. I tend to go for the dark brown shade as it looks a lot softer around the eyes once you have used the smudge end to blend it out.
Before adding your bronzer or blush it’s good to set the foundation and concealer with a loose finely milled powder to keep everything in place and to eliminate any unwanted shine. Laura Mercier’s Take A Powder Translucent Loose Setting Powder, £36 is a winner for this, it’s super lightweight and extremely natural on the skin allowing you to keep topping up through the night without looking too heavy.
Benefit’s Hoola Bronzer, £24.50 is an absolute staple favourite of mine for adding a natural warm glow and enhancing those cheekbones. It blends really well and is so buildable, allowing you to achieve the right amount of colour you want without looking too dark or muddy. It’s a must for all seasons and should always be in the makeup bag.
No Christmas party look would be complete without a bold red lipstick. MAC’s Ruby Woo, £16.50 is a winner with all skin tones due to it being the perfect deep red tone. It has such a beautiful matte velvety finish and stays put for hours, allowing you to sip on the bubbles and dance the night away without a single worry that your lipstick may have slid across your face!
