Get The Cover: Work The Elegant-Everyday Look With Cate Blanchett
Posted by Rachael Funnell in Lifestyle
From Galadriel in The Lord Of The Rings to Queen Elizabeth, Cate Blanchett has stepped into the shoes of many powerful women over the years so when we saw Cate on the cover of this month’s Harper’s Bazaar, we just knew we have to cover this strong lady’s off-set look. With her stylish, short hair and classic makeup, Cate Blanchett appears as elegant as ever. To celebrate this stylish lady of cinema we’ve put together a few of our favourite online beauty buys and top tips so you can recreate Cate’s timeless look.
We’re so used to seeing Cate with long, ethereal flowing blonde hair that we’re amazed to see her working the short cut so elegantly. Whether you have short hair, or long hair you like to tie back, you can also achieve this understated up-do by introducing a volumising hair product such as this Pret A Powder from Bumble & Bumble £22. This product is a combination of a dry shampoo and a style extender, so whether you’re squeaky clean or in need of a refresh, this product will freshen hair whilst adding volume and shape. Simple shake in at the roots and gently massage into the hair for fuller body and shapeable style. For short hair simply brush into the desired style and then set with a firm hold hairspray such as this Neal & Wolf Fix and Shine Spray £7.60 which holds style all day whilst increasing shine for a healthy, sophisticated look. If you have long hair simply tie the bulk of it back into a loose messy bun and then set the style using a few tendrils at the front of your hair. It’s the perfect style for wearing to work when you want to look feminine, but without the hassle of your hair flying around in the February winter winds.
An understated and elegant makeup look such as this is perfect for the everyday as it incorporates a gorgeous smokey eye without taking up too much time. For a subtle smokey eye like Cate’s you’ll want to find the perfect eye liner to suit your style so if you’re not sure you can read our advice on eye liners here or take our quick and free online questionnaire to discover the perfect liners for your eye makeup wardrobe. One of our favourites for softly blending is this Day Wear Eye Pencil from Estee Lauder £16.50 which comes with a smudger tip on the reverse which is perfect for blending. Focusing on the outermost edge of the eye, draw a line tracking along the lash line and just above the curve of your eyeball, then blend out towards the edge. If, like Cate, you’d like to focus on the lower lashes then draw a line underneath the eye, avoiding the inside of the eyelid as this can result in a less-than-attractive accumulation of black eye goo. Then blend again out towards the edge of the eye and hey presto - beautifully smokey eyes in an instant. Finish off with a lash-boosting mascara like this Guerlain Maxi Lash Volume Mascara in Moka £19.95 for a sultry finish.
Cate has a gorgeous, soft, matte complexion with just the slightest dusting of colour to her cheeks. If your skin is suffering a little from the general lack of sunshine over these last few months then give it a boost with a nourishing product like this Nutri-active Day Cream from Oskia £52 for a radiant glow. To smooth out any pigmentation marks, blemishes and imperfections use a light powder focusing primarily on the T-zone to reduce any existing shine. A great matte powder is this Diorskin Nude Glow Compact Powder from Dior £30.40 which conceals imperfections and smooths skin tone, leaving you with a satiny complexion. To finish off add a light dusting of rose or peach blusher, this Cheek Colour Quad from Laura Mercier £29 is perfect as it provides four warm hues for blending.
Ok, so we can’t actually smell Cate Blanchett from this cover (as much as we might want to…) but we’re convinced if we could she would be sporting a feminine, sophisticated and musky scent such as this For Her Eau De Parfum from Narciso Rodriguez £67.33 which is a personal favourite of ours at My Beauty Matches.
Now you have the necessary kit to work the elegant everyday style of this multi-award winning power-woman. She might look fabulous in a suit and armour and we’re all jealous of a woman who gets to hang out with Ian McCellan, but natural is definitely our favourite look for the beautiful Cate Blanchett.
