How To Survive The Imminent Heatwave In Style

The weather. The subject not just associated with hairdressers, dentists and parents. We know it’s terribly British, but we LOVE to talk (or grumble) about the weather. For most of the year it’s too cold, rainy, gloomy, grey, miserable and then just when we think we will never get a proper summer again. BAM. The sunshine arrives and it’s suddenly far too hot to cope. Especially when you get on a tube line with no air conditioning. (we’re looking pointedly at you central line).
There’s no denying that this sudden influx of sunshine plays havoc with our wardrobes let alone our beauty routines. Thankfully we are here with some refreshing beauty tips to round up, review and recommend the heatwave and proof beauty buys that can survive humidity, soaring temperatures and still have you looking stylish with no trace of makeup sliding off your face.
When the mercury rises, show restraint with your face makeup. Pick multi tasking tinted moisturiser, to hydrate and camouflage without creating a facial oil slick. Sisley Tinted Moisturizer can be used instead of your moisturiser and still manages to make your skin look velvety smooth.
Still worried about shine? Then use a mattifying primer underneath to control any unwanted oil. Paula's Choice Shine Stopper Primer not only controls any excess oil, leaving your face matte for over 6 hours. It also minimizes pores for a flawless finish.
Lipsticks can be a no go in a heatwave as they will literally melt, in the tube and off your face. Swap a heavy lipstick for a lip stain. Pur Cosmetics Lip Stain in Cosmo gives a gorgeous pop of peachy colour on one end and a hydrating balm on the other to keep your lips nourished even in a heatwave.
Unless kept in the fridge, lipsticks tend to be too gloopy. For sun-dazzled days go for a stain for a cake-free flush of colour such as Rimmel’s Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses Lip Tint, £5.99, which stays on for up to 12 hours with no reapplying needed. Also, lips burn, too, so keep your pout perky with an SPF such as Bobbi Brown’s Lip Balm SPF15.
Does the thought of stepping onto the tube minutes after applying your daily body moisturiser, literally bring you out into a hot sweat? Swap your usual moisturiser for Espa Cooling Body Moisturiser, refreshing menthol cools your body whilst the fragrant lavender helps to calm and soothe the mind. Hot day? No sweat (literally).
If things get a bit toasty and you accidentally burn in the sun. Make sure you have some Korres Yoghurt Cooling Gel on hand to instantly soothe and cool the skin. The yoghurt contains proteins that actively help to repair your damaged skin quickly and naturally. Top Tip: Keep it in the fridge for a cooling hit all summer long.
Heatwaves can literally be hair raising! If humidity is your idea of hair hell then don’t forget to nourish your locks. Frizz can be caused by lack of hydration, so make sure your hair is nourished to keep any flyaways at bay this summer. For curly girls in particular humidity can cause curls to fall out and turn into one tangled mess, so try replacing your hair care shampoo and conditioner routine with a Co wash. Joico Curl Crème Wash Sulfate-free Co+wash For Soft, Frizz Free Curls is a one stop to cleansed and conditioned hair. The nourishing formula, reactivates curls to keep them defined and bouncy, whilst the essential oil blend eradicates any excess sebum that could leave you feeling greasy.
If you’re planning on spending time in the sun soon, then Aveda Sun Care Protective Veil is a must have for your suitcase or handbag. Spray onto wet or dry hair for 16 hours of UV protection, the water resistant formula creates a veil over your hair to protect the colour and prevents it from drying out in the sun or salt water. Even my usually snarled mane was silky smooth on the beach after using this.
