Are You Suffering From A Case Of The January Blues?
Posted by Stephanie Orr in Body, Skin Care, Fragrances
Just like the baby blues, pre marital blues or indeed the January blues, we live in a world where change isn't always considered to be the easiest transformation.
I'll hold my hands up and admit that for me January has to be one of the most overwhelming months of the year, due to the expectations I set upon myself to make this year better than the last, whilst sticking to my so called new year resolutions, embracing my new found post Christmas weight and not to mention my credit card debt.
However as always when there's a will there's a way and when it comes to post January blues self love followed by beauty indulgence is often the answer to making yourself feel that little bit better.
Whether you're struggling to get back into the swing of work or are suffering from the effects of seasonal affective disorder, we've found the answers which may just help to put that spring back into your step.
Whilst slaving over your hair when you're not feeling your best may seem like the last thing on your mind, I always find that hair indulgence is one of the best pick-me-up practices when I'm in need of some urgent TLC and trust me on this one - you won't regret the results!
For a heavenly hair mask try System Professional's divinely scented Luxeoil Keratin Restore Mask, £28 which is enriched with Jojoba Oil, Argan Oil and Almond Oil to replenish your hair from root to tip, uplift your senses and most importantly your spirit.
After months of being wrapped away in leggings, over sized jumpers, and fluffy socks, your skin is probably feeling a little claustrophobic to say the least. Combined with the January blues and an overindulgence in sitting next to your radiator all Christmas and it's safe to say you have a recipe for a dehydrated disaster on your hands.
The effects of stress can often impact the skin in many ways but one way to keep on top of dry skin which has become victim to the likes of hormonal induced skin is to use a body scrub. I like Neom Organics Real Luxury Body Scrub, £32 which combines Safflower Oil, Jojoba Oil and Vitamin E with a fragrance fusion of Lavender, Jasmine and Brazilian Rosewood to calm and revitilise the mind, body and soul.
Hot baths work wonders to combat the effects of January blues, especially where the likes of stress and anxiety are concerned. Try adding in half a capful of Olverum Bath Oil, £29 into a hot bath, two minutes before you step in and immerse yourself into the aromatic benefits to ease stress and relax tension for a calmer and more revitalised you.
Acqua Di Parma
After stepping into your pre set aromatic bath, lather up a generous dose of Acqua Di Parma's Relaxing Shower Gel, £32 onto a loofah and wash away those Winter blues for a uplifting experience that will transmit you to a place of utter serenity.
Body oils are another fantastic way to work against diminishing the Winter blues, Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Massage Body Oil, £46 is one of my all time favourites to apply after a hot bath. Perfect to wear on its own or mixed in with a body moisturiser, try massaging this sumptuous body oil in circular motions with a light pressure to enforce the benefits further and set you up for a good nights sleep.
Lightly infusing your room and fresh bedding with an aromatic scent will help to seal in your bedtime steps and enable an undisturbed sleep. I like Tom Ford's Velvet Orchid, £58 which offers a fragrance fusion of Bergamot, Honey, Jasmine Absolute, Black Orchid, Vanilla and Tuberose to comfort your senses.
A case of the January blues won't only affect your body and how you feel inside, it can also have a side effect on your skin which can result in a change of how well your skin care products work. Dry, dehydrated, scaly skin can become more prominent on the face during the Winter months, especially if you're feeling slightly more stressed or unhappy. La Mer's Hydrating Facial, £200 (for 6 masks) helps to kick start skin back to a healthier state to leave you feeling refreshed and dehydrated free in no time and whilst it's slightly on the pricey side, you can't put a price on happiness can you?
