Ever feel like you're in a lipstick colour rut? You have your favourite nude lipstick that you reach for everyday because it's reliable, you know it suits you, and it's quick and easy to apply. And apart from the odd red or plum at the weekend you don't really venture much further than that. Sound familiar?

One lipstick shade that you HAVE to add to your collection this summer is tangerine. Don't panic! It's not as scary as it sounds and tangerine actually comes in a lot of different shade variations to suit all skin tones. Here at My Beauty Matches we decided to put the summer must have colour to the test and tried 5 gorgeous tangerine shades out on our differing skin tones. Read on to see what we thought...

Sisley Le Phyto Rouge Long Lasting Hydration, Orange Acapulco, £23.80

What Laura Thought: First things first, the packaging is gorgeous! The bullet comes with a cute velvet cover which adds a little bit of luxury to an everyday action like applying lipstick. Right off the bat I knew this lipstick wouldn't be long lasting as the texture was so creamy. It applied quite patchy and I had to spend a bit of time touching up certain areas, mainly near the inside of my lips. It felt really nice on my lips as, like I mentioned earlier, it was so creamy and hydrating. However as soon as I ate or drank anything it came straight off. As far as the colour goes it was very vibrant and I think it suited my pale complexion fairly well.

What Nidhima Thought: I really liked this shade on my skin tone. The colour was so bright and vibrant that it really helped lift my complexion. The texture was very creamy and glossy which was great for my dry lips. However it didn't last for very long because it was so glossy and moisturising. I would definitely wear this shade again as I loved the colour so much, I'd just be conscious about having to touch it up regularly.

Sisley Le Phyto Rouge Long Lasting Hydration, Ibiza Orange, £23.80

What Laura Thought: Being from the same range as the last Sisley lipstick I tried, I knew this one would be exactly the same formula wise. This shade wasn't quite as patchy as the previous one but it's longevity (or lack of it) was identical. I liked this colour on me a lot more as it was slightly more peachy and not as harsh. I could definitely see myself wearing this colour regularly if the formula was more long lasting.

What Nidhima Thought: I feel this shade would be better suited to lighter skin tones or if you wanted to add a sheer peachy colour to your lips. Just like the previous Sisley lipstick it had a lovely gloss finish, was creamy and super easy to apply. I actually really liked the shine it created and think it would be a great colour for Spring/Summer when you want to wear something a little more light weight.

Mac Amplified Lipstick, Morange, £17.50

enter image description here

What Laura Thought: I really liked this shade from Mac! The formula was creamy but not so creamy that it slid off my lips like the last two. The colour was bold and vibrant and the finish was full coverage and glossy. I think the shade suited me really well and I can't wait to find an orange outfit to wear this with! I don't actually have anything bad to say about this lipstick!

What Nidhima Thought: This lipstick from Mac was creamy but not too glossy which helped the colour to standout. This is a great lipstick if you're a bit scared to go for a bright red but still want to add a pop of colour. It also didn't dry my lips and like every MAC lipstick was super easy to apply. THis is definitely a shade I could wear every day.

Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick, Thrill Seeker, £19

enter image description here

What Laura Thought: As I'm so pale this liquid lipstick from Smashbox looked more red than orange on me (not that I minded, I love red lipstick!). I personally think this product should win awards for how long lasting it is, even with micellar water and lots of scrubbing it took of while for it to completely come of my lips. The finish is very matte and slightly on the dry side so make sure you wear some sort of lip balm or primer underneath it to prevent cracking. Other than that this is a pretty stand up lipstick!

What Nidhima Thought: This shade from Smashbox was a really bright orange which I loved. The packaging is also luxurious yet light weight. This helped me add a pop of colour straight away and lasted for more than 12 hours! Because of its long lasting power it can dry out your lips, but after a quick lip balm touch up my lips were totally fine. Totally the best lipstick to apply for a long day.

Bobbi Brown Luxe Liquid Lip Velvet Matte, Blood Orange, £28

enter image description here

What Laura Thought: I really, really liked the colour of this lipstick from Bobbi Brown! It was actually very orange on my pale skin tone, despite the photo making it look more on the red side. The texture was quite thick so be aware of that when applying it - a little goes a long way! I'd also probably use a lip liner before applying this as the doe foot applicator was a little flimsy when I was trying to get a precise line. Apart from that I really liked this product.

What Nidhima Thought: I love the colour! It's highly pigmented and doesn't budge. The packaging is beautiful and feels very luxurious. The only downside is that it accentuates cracked lips so make sure you wear lip balm before applying it. I'd also highly recommend using a lip liner before as I found the doe foot applicator a little tricky to control.
