Do you ever wonder why even though you buy the best makeup you can, that sometimes it just doesn’t quite sit right on your skin? Whilst I am a big fan of a bronzer and a creamy blush for providing me with a subtle glow, I also know that if I’m not feeding my skin with the nutrients it needs then this will just sit on top of my skin and look weirdly flat. One of the best beauty tips ever given to me was not which mascara was the best, or which foundation I should choose, it was that that skin is one of the largest, most important organs in the body. It has daily battles with exposure to toxins, pollution and sun to name a few, and that by feeding your skin with a good helping of carotenoid-rich (the colorful pigments that give fruits and veggies their wonderful colour and are packed with antioxidants) fruits and veggies every day your natural golden glow will work in harmony with your make up and make you look better than ever.
Now we’ve all heard, “You are what you eat” however we’re about to go one better. We are sharing personalised smoothie blends to help your skin type. From oily, sensitive to dry. These simple smoothie recipes are bursting with carotenoid-rich produce like kale, spinach, and carrots and are a sure fire way to get your skin to glow, your makeup will go on more smoothly and you will feel better than ever. Not to mention, they taste delicious!
Here’s a lowdown of carotenoid-rich ingredients that will make your skin glow!
Avocado: These green machines are packed with essential good fats to hydrate the skin, bringing back that glow we all love.
Mangos: Mangos contain carotenoids, which help our skin glow.
Pineapple: Pineapples are high in vitamin A-C, increase the production of collagen which decreases wrinkles. Delicious and nutritious!
Spinach: Popeye knew his stuff. Rich in vitamin C and iron it helps transport oxygen around the body by increasing hemoglobin in the blood. Without this you will look pale and tired.
Kale: With more iron than red meat and more calcium than milk this superfood should be bunged in every smoothie.
Coconut water: I can’t live without it. The key to great skin is proper hydration. lack of hydration will present itself by turning your skin dry, tight and flaky. The sun, pollution, and harsh soaps can strip your skin of its natural moisture, and leave it dry. Drinking coconut water is a great way to hydrate from within.
Flax seeds: A rich vegetable source of omega-3 fatty acid - a potent anti-inflammatory, these little seeds can do wonders for your skin. They minimising irritation, redness and inflammation, relieve skin rashes and help with chronic conditions such as rosacea, acne, dermatitis and psoriasis.
Bananas: Contain significant amounts of vitamin C and B6, which plays a vital role in maintaining elasticity of the skin and prevent premature aging of the skin.
Raspberries: Red raspberries contain anthocyanins, the nutrients which are extremely essential for maintaining a youthful skin and a beautiful complexion too by stopping the collagen breakdown.
Dates: A great sources of anti wrinkle boosting vitamin A and they make the greenest of smoothies palatable.
Now that you know what ingredients are super skin boosters you can make your own smoothies as you please. However to give you a little helping hand, here are a few of the My Beauty Matches favourite recipes that are top tips for glowing skin.
