The 5 Step Skin Care Regime ANYONE With Adult Acne Should Follow
Posted by Bianca London in Skin Care
I've always been adamant that good skin is the basis of beauty. Unfortunately, it's something I've never possessed.
For years, I've quietly scorned my friends who sleep in their makeup or take the day off with Primark face wipes but have glowing complexions. I judge those who ask 'are we supposed to be using skincare already? I just take my makeup off with water' while admiring their oil and wrinkle - free visage.
Why was it then that I, who religiously cleansed, toned, exfoliated, moisturised, applied masks and clued up on all things skincare thanks to my job as a beauty editor, had bad skin?
No matter how many expensive lotions and potions I tried, which promised the most advanced skincare benefits in the world, my skin was getting worse. I put it down to hormones, a stressful job, lack of sleep, lack of exercise and the occasional (OK, regular) sugar binge.
Besides, working in beauty, how was I supposed to write and educate people about skin care when my face told a different story?
I decided to pay a visit to renowned dermatologist, Dr Prenna Jones, and her knowledge and tips have honestly changed my life - and I hope they can change yours, too.
Working in beauty and being lucky enough to sample all the best products is brilliant but it's also wreaked havoc with my skin. I'd come home and excitedly try out a different product every night of the week. Major error. The most vital piece of advice that Dr Prenna Jones taught me was routine. Once a fickle beauty aficionado, I now stick to the same three products (for morning cleansing, for evening cleansing and for moisturising) and it's made the world of difference.
Here are the skin care products and cosmetics that work hard for me - and hopefully can for you, too.
Bioderma Sensibio H Make-up Removing Micelle Solution Reverse Pump 500 ml
Take the day’s makeup off with Bioderma Sensibio H Make-up Removing Micelle Solution Reverse Pump, £19.10. Neostrata Face Cream Plus
It’s important to note that you only need apply this cream as and when your skin needs it or feels dry. This extra - strength, emollient and exfoliating face cream from Neostrata, £37 targets correction of the visible signs of photoaging, including enlarged pores, dullness, fine lines and wrinkles, and improves skin texture.
Eltamd UV Lotion Full-body Sunscreen SPF 30
Applying an SPF is the most essential step in the battle against acne – but countless women disregard it. You should plump for a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 protection and go as high as SPF 50 – even in the UK. This UV lotion from Eltamd, £26 is rich in antioxidants to help absorb free radicals and contains Hyaluronic Acid to seal in moisture and reduce flaking.
Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser SPF 20
When it comes to concealing imperfections without clogging your skin and undoing all the hard work you achieved with your morning skin care regime, this is the go - to product.
A perfect blend of skin care and makeup, this lightweight Oil Free Tinted Mosituriser from Laura Mercier, £34 helps to control oil breakthrough and gives a sheer hint of colour for a healthy, natural glow.

Dr Hauschka Face Powder Loose 12 g Translucent
To give yourself an extra layer of coverage and reduce shine, a loose powder is ideal. The silk powder and tapioca reduce shine, leaving your skin feeling soft and refreshed – and it’s all natural so won’t irritate skin. I love Dr Hauschka's Loose Face Powder, £24.45
