10 Simple Steps A Pain Free Bikini Wax At Home
Posted by Rachael Wheeler in Body, Health & Lifestyle
Ladies, let’s be honest. How many of you let the defuzzing slide when it comes to winter? Then, the sun suddenly appears and everyone make a sudden dash for the beach leaving you caught a little short (or should that be long) in the nether regions topiary status? Do you a) reach for your trusty razor as surely just once won’t hurt, or b) attempt the self flagellation that is waxing one's own bikini line?
Obviously you choose the razor, right? Wrong. Shaving down there can lead to a whole host of uncomfortable issue from cuts, razor rash and the dreaded ingrown hairs.
However, don’t fear the wax. Done properly it’s surprisingly painless and the results will last through several of those summer beach trips leaving you with nothing to worry about except what bikini to pack.
Here are our top tips for how to wax your bikini line at home, avoid bruises, ingrown hairs and stay smoother for longer.
- Take a painkiller 30mins beforehand
- Check the temperature of the wax on your forearm to check its not too hot
- Let your hair grow to at least 4mm in length or trim it down if it’s over 1cm long
- Attempt a Brazilian wax first time round
- Wax if you have sunburn
How to wax your bikini line at home:
Exfoliate pre wax. This will help avoid pimples and really is the best way to reduce ingrown hairs. Use a fine scrub to really make sure your hair follicles are clear. Aveda Smoothing Body Polish has fine particles and is oil free so won’t interfere with the adhesive of the wax.
Make sure your skin is dry and free of any residue. You might want to pat on a little talc on your bikini area if you have any remaining moisturiser or cleanser on there.
After heating up your wax, sit on the floor (try and avoid carpet just in case) and bend your knees so your heels are facing. Think similar to the Lotus position in yoga….
Use a hot wax that doesn’t require messy papers to remove it. Nair Argan Oil Resin Roll On wax goes on easily with minimal mess, hardens around the hair without sticking to the skin and pulls away smoothly.
Test the temperature of the wax on your forearm before applying it to your bikini area. No one wants to burn down there. NO one.
Now remember this is not a race. No need to spread wax over the entire areas, take it in small inch wide sections for easy removal. Apply a thick layer of wax in the direction of the hair growth and either press on a cloth strip or wait for it to harden. Which will take around 15 seconds. You can use this time to spread on wax on the other side.
Now for the action! Hold your skin taut, grab the end of the wax so you will be pulling AGAINST the hair growth and pull the strip parallel to you body, not straight out. This will help you avoid bruising and hair breakage. Which can lead to ingrown hairs and having to get rid of them.
Press the area immediately once the strip has been removed. This really does help to reduce any discomfort you may feel.
Repeat this process until you have removed all the hair you wish too. Make sure you only wax each section of skin twice only. Any stragglers can be cleaned up with tweezers for a really neat finish. Tweezerman Tweezers are super precise and grab even the tiniest of hairs. Not to mention they last forever!
