This Summer Fruit is The New Skincare Craze!

With Summer coming to an end, we begin thinking about all the exotic daiquiris which will be too cold to drink soon, and we begin frantically reposting all of our Summer vacation photos but there is good news on the horizon for you! While eventually, those Summer photos from the girls' reunion will run out, your favourite daiquiri ingredient can come one step closer to you and grow into one of your skincare essentials because watermelon skin care is now a thing!
Going through the rocky roads of retinoids, and after going bananas for banana-themed products, it is difficult to be surprised at any other ‘wild’ beauty trend that comes around, yet, the new watermelon craze is the real deal.
Watermelons (consisting of 96% water, as would be expected) are actually the secret ingredient we’ve all been missing in our routines. Like a natural hyaluronic acid, this delicious fruit (well, actually a berry), is bursting with more than just sickly-sweet flavour.
“Watermelon has 92% water content and is rich in vitamins A, B6 and C, amino acids and lycopene. It’s incredibly antioxidant-rich and is a great hydrating and soothing ingredient for skin all-year-round,” says Sarah Lee, Korean beauty expert and the co-founder of [Glow Recipe].
Watermelon serums and masks are aimed at preventing fine lines and combating dull skin. The lycopene in watermelons is an anti-inflammatory phytonutrient and works really well for people with dry skin types and those who suffer from acne-prone or blemish-prone skin as it acts as cell repairing ingredient. Watermelons also contain an ingredient called citrulline which is an amino acid known for boosting circulation and acts as a mild exfoliant.
“Watermelon was one of my mothers go-to DIY facial ingredients. She used to grate cold watermelon rind into thin, almost see-through slices to put on my face as a cooling and soothing mask, especially effective after sun damage or acne-breakouts,” continues Sarah.
