5 Rejuvenating Fragrances for Feeling Fresh This Spring
Posted by Nitya Uppal in Fragrances
After what feels like forever, we’re finally getting a glimpse of the elusive sun. As we arrive at the cusp of spring there is one thing a pro-shopper must do and that is think ahead. We’ve already covered the beauty trends you should look forward to this season and now it’s time to make sure we’re picking the right scents to go with the meticulously planned looks so in this article we're going to round up some of our favourite online beauty buys for Spring.
The sole reason spring deserves its own catalogue of scents is that with the change in temperature the effectiveness of a perfume varies. It is common knowledge that the summer heat can intensify a smell while the chill has a tendency to reduce the strength of a perfume. Spring holds the middle ground. It is just beginning to inch towards the summer so this season you have the liberty of experimenting with lighter notes as well as deeper ones. We feel naked without the right scent - picking the wrong one magically has the power to dull our day, so it's important to choose wisely.
Here’s a list of some of our favourite products for the season:
Who knew that a concoction of musk, benzoin, caramel would result in one of the sweetest smelling perfumes in the market? Looks like Prada had a clue. If you’re leaning towards candy-flavoured perfumes this one would be right up your alley. Prada Candy has a decadent flavouring of vanilla which brings a candy quality without being completely childish.
The instant image that conjures up in our mind is Meryl Streep giving a sardonic glare and saying, “Florals for spring? Groundbreaking.” The brilliance of The Devil Wears Prada aside, it’s impossible to speak of the upcoming season without mentioning the best of floral scents available today. So for the conservative, our first suggestion is Issey Miyake’s L’eau D’issey Florale, best described as the flowery cousin of its classic bottle. Their notes are similar except this one has lighter, floral tones. Launched in 2011, it has notes of mandarin, lily, rose, musk and white wood giving it a crisp and fresh fragrance which is perfect for this time of the year.
Our second ‘floral’ recommendation for springtime is Burberry Brit’s Rhythm Floral. It is another dependable name which comes with top notes of orchard fruit, Sicilian lemon and orange along with Egyptian jasmine, lotus blossom and dewy lilac. Burberry describes it as a sensual, floral fragrance with an unexpected fruity twist. It has base notes of amber wood, driftwood and musk. The British label has managed to create a perfume which is just the right mix of fruity and flowery. It’s basically Spring in a bottle.
For Chanel-loyalists our recommendation would be picking up a bottle of Misia which launched early last year. The decadent notes of the perfume include violet, iris, orris root and Turkish rose. Its base also has notes of benzoin from Laos and tonka bean. This bottle is created by Chanel’s newest in-house perfumer Olivier Pole - his first venture for the house. Chanel Misia is known to be subtly sexy and lingers on longer than you would expect.
Though spicier tones are better suited for fall/winter, if you prefer an unconventional get-up we’d recommend the newly launched perfume from the house of Calvin Klein. This is the updated version of the mega-popular, borderline iconic CK One which has notes of wasabi, rose absolute and sandalwood. Unlike the sweet, fruity smells crowding this list CK2 promises to keep you feeling good all day with its ‘urban woody-fresh’ tones.
