If you want to get ahead on 2019’s makeup trends then you’ve come to the right place! It can be hard to see the wood from the trees when trying to figure out what is going to be the hottest new thing in beauty, especially when we’ve got platforms like Pinterest, Instagram and Youtube throwing new information at us left, right and center. So to help you out, here is a definitive list of sure fire trends that will be popular throughout 2019.

Brown Lipstick

For the last couple of years nude has been the queen of lipstick shades. And why wouldn’t it be? It’s versatile, flattering, and easy to apply in a hurry. But now it’s time for nude to move aside and make room for brown which is set to be 2019’s most popular lipstick shade. Because there are so many different shades and tones of brown, it’s really easy to find a colour that suits your complexion. I really like Whirl by Mac. I’m quite pale so this shade shows up relatively dark on me, but as it contains hints of pink it’s not too harsh.

Heavily Lined Eyes

Heavily lined eyes is a bit of a grungy trend that won’t be for everyone (it reminds me of being back in school, shudders), but it’s something that was seen all over the runways towards the end of last year. The key to mastering this trend is starting light and building up the darkness. Lord & Berry’s Smudgeproof Eye Pencil is great as it glides on really easily and is completely set and smudgeproof within 30 seconds (hence the name).

Soft Contouring

Gone are the days of harsh, heavy, cream contouring. Take a large fluffy brush and lightly dust some bronzer over the temples, the frame of the face and the jawline. Again, the trick to pulling this off is to start off soft and build up the colour. There’s nothing worse than accidently applying too much bronzer and having to walk around looking like a mud slick all day. Becca’s Sunlit Bronzer is great for that very reason as it helps to give the illusion of beautiful, sun-kissed skin without requiring layers and layers of product.

Colour Blocking

Colour blocking is another trend that was everywhere on the S/S19 catwalks last year. Soft washes of pastels and brights are set to transition from the runways to the high street in 2019 and we can’t wait! Colourful eyeshadow is an easy way to brighten up any makeup look and there is tonnes of choice out there. My current favourite is NYX’s Ultimate Brights Shadow palette. It contains 16 beautifully colourful shadows in a range of hues and finishes, including satin, shimmer and metallic. The formula is really easy to blend and very long lasting.

Matte Skin

So matte skin isn’t a new trend persay, it’s been a thing for a few years. However with the sudden explosion of glossy makeup and K-Beauty in 2018 it looked like matte skin may have been on its way out. But like a phoenix from the ashes it rose and looks like it’s set to stay for 2019. One of my personal favourites is the Marc Jacobs Re(Marc)able Full Coverage foundation. Like the name suggests, it is full coverage but it also sets down to a beautiful matte finish without making your skin look dry or cakey.
