Top 8 Matte Lipsticks That Won't Dry Your Lips

Matte lipsticks are a bit like Marmite; people either love them or hate them. I personally really like matte lipsticks because of their durability, colour pay off, and overall finish. The one problem I have is that I have VERY dry and flaky lips and have to plan in advance when I’m going to wear matte lipstick as days after my lips will be wrecked. No matter how much lip balm I apply my lips seem to be dry 24/7 so it’s something I’ve learnt to accept and live with (I know, I’m a real inspiration).

Even though I’ve accepted my fate that doesn’t mean I’m ready to give up matte lipsticks all together, and neither should you! Below are my top 8 matte lipstick picks that won’t dry your lips out, will give you ultimate colour pay off and will stay put all day long.

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick

This is by far my favourite lipstick I’ve ever used, and it’s a bonus that it happens to be matte. My go to everyday shade is Very Victoria which is the perfect dark nude for my complexion. The texture is so soft and creamy and it glides on like a dream, lasting pretty much all day (I do have to touch it up sometimes). It doesn’t emphasise the uneven texture of my lips and is very comfortable to wear. This is a great product to start with if you’re new to matte lipsticks as it’s not super matte and very easy to apply.

Mac Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour

Can Mac do no wrong when it comes to lipsticks? I love the Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour formula as it lasts ALL DAY and the colour is so bright and bold. I personally like to wear Mac’s Prep and Prime Lip Base underneath as it can be a little drying as the day goes on, but paired with the lip base you won’t have to worry about that. It also helps to stop feathering and bleeding too.

Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colour

This little beauty from Revlon gives you a gorgeous velvet matte finish and lightweight hydration all day long, plus incredible pigment. You won’t need to touch it up throughout the day… that’s if you can resist the urge to eat it off your lips as it’s scented with delicious mango and vanilla.

Marc Jacobs Le Marc Creme Lipstick

Formulated to stay on for 10 hours, the Marc Jacobs Le Marc Creme Lipstick is blended with antioxidant-rich Seaberry and Cocoa Butter for intense all day hydration. You don’t have to worry about touching this lipstick up, even after eating and drinking, as it’s staying power is so good! This is my go to ‘dinner or night out’ lipstick for that very reason.

bareMinerals Statement Matte Liquid Lipcolour

The silky-smooth formula of the bareMinerals Statement Matte Liquid Lipcolour is to die for! Its lightweight, cream to matte texture doesn’t make your lips feel dry or sticky as it contains lots of plant-based waxes to keep lips feeling soft all day. The built-in primer technology means that it stays on all day without bleeding, feathering or transfering. A win win if you ask me!

Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Lipstick

I never have to worry about touching up my lipstick when I wear the Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Lipstick. It has a 12 hour wear and an intense colour pay off with just one layer of product. The only negative I have to say about this lipstick is that it can transfer onto your teeth if you don’t give it enough time to dry before closing your mouth so bear that in mind, especially with the darker colours.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick

This award-winning long-wearing lip colour delivers full coverage with a creamy-matte finish. Gliding effortlessly over lips, the lightweight lipstick lays down vivid pigment that provides up to six hours of continuous wear. The lipstick contains Vitamin E and Avocado Oil to help hydrate and soften lips and the formula won't bleed or transfer. It also comes in a great selection of shades so you’re bound to find one you like!

Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment

Said to be their most powerful matte yet, this lipstick pigment from Nars is a must have. It has an amazing lightweight texture which dries down to a smudge-resistant ink like finish, all while keeping lips moisturised and hydrated. I really enjoy wearing this lipstick because it is so lightweight, but I do tend to pair it with Mac’s Prep and Prime Lip Base as it can become little drying as the day goes on.
