Tried & Tested: We Put The Rouge Pur Couture YSL Lipstick To The Test

This month we selected Yves Saint Laurent to be our brand of the month as we felt their luxury collection of makeup and skin care provided the perfect tools for recreating your look for Spring. So in the spirit of investigative journalism we decided to put a few of their iconic makeup pieces to the test with the help of some expert makeup application tips.
This week I was laboured with the dreadful task of testing the Rouge Pur Couture The Mats lipstick in Grenat Satisfaction £26.00, I know, poor me right? Yves Saint Laurent designed this collection of lipsticks with the intention of creating a heroic, passionate, seductive and scandalous iconic product. As a brand YSL make no apologies for being unashamedly sexy, using Cara Delevingne as their ambassador who is celebrated for her wild child reputation, and the Rouge Pur Couture The Mats collection is certainly no different. With deep, forbidden shades which give a stretched-leather finish to lips, everything about this products is sensually sleek and oozing with sex appeal.
The first thing I noticed upon opening the product is the gorgeous gold casing, it has that heavy feel to it which is for some reason really satisfying. The formula of the product is deliciously creamy and glides effortlessly onto the surface of the lips. I absolutely loved the colour, but the only downside I would say is that what with it being a particularly cold time of year, this particular shade does highlight my chapped lips more than I would prefer. I think perhaps opting for a lighter shade would remove this problem, but were my lips super-smooth this colour would look absolutely stunning.
This lipstick certainly passes the test for long wear also, as it refused to smudge for many hours and even when I purposely tried to rub it off the gorgeous colour still remained. I think given the deep shade of this particular plum-red it's a perfect choice for those opting for a more sophisticated lip colour and it could definitely be worn throughout the day and night. I love this colour but I think if you're suffering with a particularly bad bout of chapped lips then work on buffing away any dry skin before you try using this colour. A great product I like to use for unhappy lips is the Clinique Sweet Pots Sugar Scrub Balm £15.00 which gently exfoliates away dead skin.
