We Put The bareSkin Concealer From bareMinerals To The Test
Posted by Rachael Funnell in Tried & Tested
This January we saw the launch of the new bareSkin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer from bareMinerals £17.60 and always being up for a challenge, we felt we had to put this brand new online beauty buy to the test. Boasting the ability to instantly cover the appearance of dark circles, discolouration and imperfections, this magic-wand of a concealer sounded too good to be true, but as our resident beauty writer Rachael soon found out, they weren’t lying.
As you can see from this rather unbecoming photo, my skin was a bit of a wreck following the Christmas holidays. One of the many benefits of getting older is that usually my skin is relatively blemish free, but after 10 days of drinking, eating and drinking again, well, the results speak for themselves. Safe to say I was highly in need of decent concealer that wouldn’t make my skin any worse so opted to give the new bareSkin concealer a try. As someone who suffers with sensitive skin, trying new products can always feel a little like Russian roulette, so I was anxious to see if and how this concealer affected my skin.
The product comes in the form of a small tube with an applicator wand making it extremely easy to apply to specific problem areas which is ideal for someone who prefers the “barely there” makeup look, as opposed to heavily caked. The serum concealer feels fairly dense when you first apply it to the skin, but after blending it with a small makeup brush I found it spread lightly across the skin and almost felt as if it wasn’t there.
I was able to effectively cover my many existing blemishes and whilst the under-eye coverage was good, it left me with a rather wide-eyed look as more had to be applied to even the pigmentation in this area. I experienced some creasing over the eyes but after a few touch-up brushes this disappeared and did not return for the 7 hours I was wearing the concealer.
I should mention that I didn’t apply any other makeup in the before and after photos of this review, so what you’re seeing are the direct results of using (what I think is) a fantastic concealer. After applying this product I walked along a very windy seaside promenade to a cinema where I then suffered 2 and a half face-grabbing hours of The Revenant (if any of you haven’t seen it yet, I can assure you there are a lot of hiding-behind-your-hands moments) but upon returning home the coverage was still very much the same as when I first put it on.
I think this is a fantastic concealer for hiding a few blemishes before an event, but I would not recommend it for persistent use as a dark circle concealer as for my personal skin tone I found it less effective around the eyes. That said, with this concealer being available in six tones (fair, light, medium, medium golden, tan, dark to deep) you might find your results in concealing dark circles differ from my own. All in all I would give this concealer a 4 out of 5 as it effectively concealed my blemishes, lasted all day and the lightweight texture didn’t cause any further breakouts which is always my main concern due to my sensitive skin.
